West Portal Lutheran Church & School
Music Ensembles
2008-2009

The following choirs are open for enrollment throughout the school year. These choirs participate in Worship and School Programs during the school year. All rehearsals are held at the Sloat Campus unless indicated.

NOTE: Church membership is not a requirement to participate in any music opportunity at West Portal Lutheran Church or School.

The Lambs Choir    (2nd—3rd grade)
Tuesday 3:15 p.m.; Location: Sunset Campus-Library
A singing choir for all children in the 2nd - 3rd grade. This choir sings for various worship services during the school year.

Jubilation Choir     (4th—8th grade)
Thursday 7:45 a.m.;  Location: Fireside Room
A vocal choir for children in the 4th - 8th grade that participates in various worship services and programs during the school year.

School Orchestra     Friday 2:20 p.m.
Location: Parish Hall
For all children and youth grades 4-8. Participates in worship and various programs during the school year. Opportunities for small ensembles are also available. Interested children in the 3rd grade, please call the Director of Music in the Church Office.

After School Music Program
West Portal offers after school music lessons through a number of local instructors. For more information please contact the program coordinator Elise Engelberg at 415-431-0147 or the Minister of Music at the church office.

Joy Chimes    Monday 3:15—3:45 p.m.
Location: Sunset Campus
A beginning chime choir for children in the 3rd grade. Enrollment is limited.

Genesis Ringers    Tuesday 3:30—4:10 p.m.
Location: Fireside Room
A beginning handbell choir for children beginning in the 4th grade.

Luther Ringers    Wednesday  3:30—4:10 p.m.
Location: Fireside Room
A beginning handbell choir for children in 4th-8th Grades. Some music reading skill is helpful but not required.

Alleluia Ringers    Thursday 3:30—4:10 p.m.
Location: Fireside Room
A beginning-intermediate handbell choir for children in 4th-8th grades. Some music reading skill is helpful but not required.
Please note that Handbell Ringers are assigned to the following choirs as openings occur.

Carillon Ringers    Wednesday 7:45—8:15 a.m.
Revelation Ringers    Friday 7:45—8:15 a.m.
Location: Fireside Room
Intermediate/advanced handbell choirs that perform regularly for Church and present concerts in the community during the school year. These ensembles attend the Lutheran Handbell Festival each Spring at Concordia University, Irvine CA.
 
Children and Youth
 
Enrollment in any of the following choirs is open from August through June. All are welcome. There are no auditions for choir membership, simply a willingness to serve.

Chancel Choir
Thursday 7:00—8:30 p.m.     Fireside Room
Primarily leads in the 8:30 a.m. Sunday service in addition to special holy day services throughout the year.

The Master’s Musicians
Saturday 3:30—4:50 p.m.     Sanctuary
A contemporary Praise ensemble utilizing both instrumentalists and vocalists who lead worship once a month at the Saturday 5:00 p.m. service and on Sunday morning at the 8:30 service.

Celestial Ringers
Thursday 6:00—7:00 p.m.     Fireside Room
A handbell choir for adults and youth. Music reading helpful but not required.

Brass Ensemble    TBA
Participates in various worship services throughout the year. Rehearsals are scheduled three weeks before this group participates in worship.
